NFL Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival Parade 2016
It is with great pride that the GCHS Marching Warriors Band accepted the invitation to perform in the 2016 NFL Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival Parade on August 6th in Canton, Ohio. Our students performed for an audience of over 200,000 spectators celebrating the induction of Granite City High School Alumnus, Kevin Greene, into the NFL Pro Football Hall of Fame.

We would also like to congratulate Dominik Topal for winning 1st Place with his composition, “Oblivion”, in the Illinois Music Educators Association All-State Composition Contest. Over 150 original compositions were submitted by students throughout Illinois, and were judged by a panel of active composers and professional musicians. It is an incredible honor to place in this level of competition.
BOA Music For All Festival – March 6
On March 6th, the GCHS Wind Ensemble traveled to O’Fallon Township High School where they had an amazing performance and earned a First Superior Rating from all 3 judges at our very first BOA Concert Band Festival!!
IHSA Solo & Ensemble Contest – March 5
The GCHS Band competed in the IHSA State Solo & Ensemble Contest on March 5th at Alton High School. They came away with an impressive 44 first place ratings, 16 second place ratings, and 12 third place ratings, and 2 Best of the Day awards. These are the highest scores that the GCHS Band has earned in the history of the school!

WorldStrides National Band Competition – April 8
The GCHS Band Program received their highest honors to date for their performances at the WorldStrides National Band Competition held in New York City, New York, on April 8th. The Concert Band and Wind Ensemble received a total of 8 awards in competition with groups from seven other states. The two bands’ combined scores earned them the overall Grand Champion Sweepstakes Trophy.
Both the GCHS Concert Band and Wind Ensemble took 1st Place in their classes and received a Gold Rating in a national band competition.
The GCHS Wind Ensemble received the Instrumental Adjudicators Award and the Outstanding Band Award for achieving the highest score in the entire festival. They also received the Maestro Award for the Best Soloist in their class, earned by alto saxophone soloist, Nick Haddock.
The GCHS Bands’ award-winning performances have earned them an invitation to perform in the WorldStrides Festival of Gold held at Chicago’s Orchestra Hall in April 2018.
