We would also like to congratulate Marcus Barnes and Nick Haddock on being the first students in GCHS history to place in the ALL-STATE COMPOSITION COMPETITION.

Marcus Barnes earned 2nd place in the Instrumental Ensemble Caption with his composition “As the Sun Rises”, and Nick Haddock took 3rd Place in the Jazz Ensemble Caption with his composition “Flying High”.


IHSA Solo & Ensemble Contest – March 5

The GCHS Band competed in the IHSA State Solo & Ensemble Music Competition on March 5th at Alton High School.  They came away with an impressive 81 first place ratings, 35 second place ratings, and 4 Best of the Day awards.  These are the highest scores that the GCHS Band has earned in the history of the school!

WorldStrides National Band Competition – April 2

On April 2nd, our Band Program received their highest honors to date for their performances at the WorldStrides National Band Competition held in Nashville, Tennessee.  The Concert Band and Wind Ensemble received a total of 7 awards in competition with bands from eight other states.  The two bands’ combined scores earned them the overall Grand Champion Sweepstakes Trophy.

The Concert Band received its first Gold Rating in a national band competition, as well as the Maestro Award for the Best Soloist in their class, earned by clarinet soloist, Reanna Farley.

The Wind Ensemble received a Gold Rating from the judges and both the Instrumental Adjudicators Award and the Outstanding Band Award for achieving the highest score in the entire festival.   They also received the Maestro Award for the Best Soloist in their class, earned by trumpet soloist, Ian Cowley.

Our Bands’ award-winning performances have earned them an invitation to perform in the WorldStrides Festival of Gold held at Chicago’s Orchestra Hall in April of 2017.


IHSA State Organizational Competition – April 15

On April 15th, we traveled to O’Fallon Township high school where the Wind Ensemble had an amazing performance and earned a First Superior Rating from all 3 judges at the IHSA State Organizational Contest!!
