The Granite City High School Band Program offers a rich variety of instrumental experiences for over 225 students. The program consists of multiple ensembles for student participation including three concert bands, two pep bands, two marching bands, two jazz bands, a color guard, and numerous other small ensembles. The GCHS Bands have consistently received superior ratings and awards at national, regional, and area events. The GCHS Band Program is dedicated to guiding every student to achieve a lifelong understanding and appreciation for quality music and music making.
The GCHS Band Program received their highest honors to date for their performances at the WorldStrides National Band Competition held in New York City, New York, on April 8th. The Concert Band and Wind Ensemble received a total of 8 awards in competition with groups from seven other states. The two bands’ combined scores earned them the overall Grand Champion Sweepstakes Trophy.
Both the GCHS Concert Band and Wind Ensemble took 1st Place in their classes and received a Gold Rating in a national band competition.
The GCHS Wind Ensemble received the Instrumental Adjudicators Award and the Outstanding Band Award for achieving the highest score in the entire festival. They also received the Maestro Award for the Best Soloist in their class, earned by alto saxophone soloist, Nick Haddock.
The GCHS Bands’ award-winning performances have earned them an invitation to perform in the WorldStrides Festival of Gold held at Chicago’s Orchestra Hall in April 2018.
